OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to compare the effects of treadmill training (TT) and whole body vibration training (WBVT) on attention, severity of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms and impairment of executive function behaviors, and quality of life in children with ADHD.
METHODS: Thirty children (7-11 years of age) with ADHD were randomly assigned to either the ‘TT’ group or the ‘WBVT in addition to TT’ group (TT + WBVT). Both groups received TT for 8 weeks (3 days/week). The TT + WBWT group also received WBVT for 15 min…

Background: To determine if children with Osteochondritis Dessicans (OCD) lesions of the distal femur are more likely to have a co-morbid diagnosis of Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) than age matched controls and to assess the impact of ADHD on OCD outcomes.
Methods: A retrospective chart review of patients treated at a single tertiary care hospital between 2000-2012 was performed. Charts were reviewed for a diagnosis of OCD of the distal femur in all skeletally immature patients (males
Pausing to check his map, Sam confirms that he is on the right track for his next delivery, only 2 kilometres left. He takes the opportunity to quench his thirst and check if his delivery load is securely attached to his back; some contain fragile vials of medicines and digital pills susceptible to damage if handled inappropriately. After making sure of the integrity of those packages, Sam takes a final look at his surroundings. “It’s quite peaceful with nobody around,” he thinks to himself and resumes his path.
Upon arrival at his destination, his gear is disinfected before he has access to the …
The term Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has a long history of problems behind it. The origin of all these problems lies in the lack of agreement in the assessment procedures and evaluation instruments. The diagnosis is clinical and is determined by the observation and information provided by parents and teachers. So, this is highly subjective and leads to disparate results. Therefore, on the one hand the inaccuracy of the diagnosis of ADHD, which has been based on subjective criteria, together with the fact that hyperactivity is one of the main symptoms of this disorder, implies that …

AbstractRationaleBehavioral disturbances (BD) are prevalent in patients with substance use disorders (SUD).ObjectivesTo test the hypothesis that chronic exposure to cocaine could favor the acquisition of BD that were not present in childhood.MethodsWe used child and adult ADHD self-report screening scales (WURS-25 and ASRS-6, respectively, with their usual threshold) as assessment tools for significant BD. In a cross-sectional assessment of 382 patients with multiple SUD, we investigated BD and then “de novo” BD (i.e., by restricting the sample to patients below the threshold for childhood BD) (N = 214). We als…
It’s been two years since #1 started working with a personal trainer I knew from her CrossFit coaching, maybe one year since he started going to my regular CrossFit classes.#1 is 23 now. He can read at about a third grade level, most of his writing is text messaging to Emily or I. He’s impulsive, but has generally done well with listening to coaches and workplace supervisors. Putting it all together I thought CrossFit was a bridge too far. Trying it was his idea, not mine.I was wrong about that. He can now do up to 2/3 of a workout with some minor guidance. Sometimes he does less, but over time he’s getting better. His bel…
