J Knee Surg DOI: 10.1055/s-0040-1713756The purpose of this study was to compare the prevalence of mental health conditions among patients undergoing (1) primary total knee arthroplasty (pTKA), (2) septic revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA), and (3) aseptic revision total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The State Inpatient Databases were queried for all TKAs from 2005 to 2014 yielding 563,144 patients. Patients were separated into the following cohorts: primary, septic revision, and aseptic revision. Diagnoses of any mental health condition and the following specific conditions were compared between the three cohorts: schizoph…

Conclusions: ADHD in patients with AD is associated with a higher frequency of PTEs and PTSD with more severe and more impairing PTSD symptoms. In alcohol-dependent patients with ADHD, regular screening for PTSD should be considered.Eur Addict Res

Conclusion: Screened-positive ADHD is an independent predictor of late SU and AUD, along with self-reported CD and SS. From a public health perspective, identifying ADHD is not only important in childhood and adolescence but also in early adulthood to guide specific interventions to lower risks of drug use initiation and the development of AUD in early adulthood.Eur Addict Res

AbstractIndigenous communities lack representation in psychiatric epidemiology despite disproportionate exposure to risk factors. We document the cumulative and 12-month prevalence of psychiatric disorders across the early life course among a sample of Indigenous young adults and compare prospective and retrospective reporting of lifetime mental disorders. This community-based participatory research includes data from 735 Indigenous people from 8 reservations/reserves. Personal interviews were conducted between 2002 –2010 and 2017–2018 totaling 9 waves; diagnostic assessments of DSM-IV-TR alcohol abuse/dependen…

Many parents of adolescents with ADHD do not understand the unique risks of alcohol use for their adolescents. In addition, if alcohol use harm is not obvious, parents may not perceive there to be concerns about alcohol use on functioning. Parental education about alcohol use and ADHD is needed.

ConclusionsIn addition to confirming the role of MDD, we demonstrate that ADHD and schizophrenia likely play a role in the aetiology of self-harm using multivariate genetic designs for causal inference. Among the many individual risk factors we simultaneously considered, our findings suggest that systematic detection and treatment of core psychiatric symptoms, including psychotic and impulsivity symptoms, may be beneficial among people at risk for self-harm.

Conclusions: At treatment entry, the presence of different comorbid SUD clusters do not affect ADHD-specific symptomatology or severity.

OBJECTIVE: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects 3-7% of women of childbearing age. Whether ADHD is associated with an increased risk of preterm birth is unclear.
DESIGN: National register-based cohort study.
SETTING: Sweden.
POPULATION: Nulliparous women giving birth to singleton infants 2007-2014 (n = 377,381).
METHODS: Women were considered to have ADHD if they had been dispensed at least one prescription for ADHD medication, i.e., a central nervous system stimulant or non-stimulant drugs for ADHD, prior to, during or after pregnancy (2005-2014). Women…

ConclusionsOur findings support the hypothesis that ADHD additionally diminishes inhibition ability in individuals with AUD. This may increase relapse risk when confronted with alcohol cues. Further, it is crucial for patients with comorbid AUD and ADHD to take into account not only reduced cognitive control over behavioral inhibition but also simultaneously heightened alcohol cue-reactivity.
