Benefits of getting a diagnosis Vs not getting one? : ADHD

Where I live getting an ADHD diagnosis is very difficult, and having the diagnosis wouldn’t necessarily help me in any way, other than getting access to medication.

From your experience: how has having a diagnosis helped you? How did you first know you had ADHD? What helps (outside of medication)? What medication has helped?

I’m aware of lots of controversy around the diagnosis in general, and how some symptoms of trauma can be misdiagnosed as ADHD. While I think it’s an interesting discussion I still feel that intervention is most important, regardless of the source of the symptoms.
