Conclusion: Suitability of the original instrument for Xhosa translation was problematic and further investigation into appropriate cross-cultural translation techniques is needed to improve ASRS translation properties and assess its Xhosa translation. Development of a suitable Xhosa version of the ASRS is considered to be an important step towards broadening the scope of ADHD research in South Africa.

ConclusionOur study shows that during the first years of living in Sweden, there seems to be fewer barriers to psychiatric care for unaccompanied refugee minors compared to the accompanied migrant minors.
